The ABC's of Fall Protection by DBI-SALA®

Are you in compliance?
As of March 15, 2013, residential construction employers are required to follow the original fall protection guidelines from 1995, known as subpart M (Reference OSHA 1926.500 - .503).

What Has Changed?

  • Effective March 15, 2013 OSHA ended the temporary enforcement measures with reduced fines, increased consulting and education efforts
  • The 25 feet eave-to-ground height threshold no longer applies
  • Slide guards are not acceptable
  • Instruction STD 03-00-001 is not valid
  • Temporary enforcement is not valid

What Does This Mean to the Residential Construction Industry?
Any employer not providing acceptable forms of fall protection for effected workers will be cited, unless they can demonstrate why conventional fall protection was not feasible or why it presented a greater hazard if used.

What Does OSHA Consider Acceptable Forms of Fall Protection?
Residential construction employees conducting work 6 feet or more above a lower level shall be protected from falling. Acceptable forms of fall protection include:
  • Active fall arrest systems (fall restraint is acceptable)
  • Guardrails
  • Safety nets

What Resources Do I Have To Be Compliant?
Thankfully, a complete roofer's fall protection system is as easy as ABC. DBI-SALA® and PROTECTA® offer a complete array of anchorage devices, body supports, connecting components, and various accessories to help you customize the perfect fall protection solution for your job-site.
